ARK - Winter Projects
Hi Everyone -
One of the things that we didn't touch on today at Urban is ARK projects this winter.
Several of you have already helped out with a very random ARK project, helping someone repair/restore a roof and ceiling in their mobile home, and now it's time to swing into high gear this winter to show God's love in practical ways!
A friend of mine shared with me yesterday a cool idea that I think is totally from God, and we're gonna put ideas into action! Have you ever helped the neighbor car in the parking lot next to you in the wintertime by wiping their windshields clean from snow or ice, knowing they are about to leave as well? Well, a friend got this idea from doing just such an Act of Random Kindness, this past week, so we're going to mobilize a team to do that during some of the next snowfalls!
How will we go about this? Well, first we're going to find a place to go. We should have that nailed down this week. Then, we're going to get a team of volunteers together, and set up a list for everybody to call each other when the snow falls, telling them where to go and at what time, so we can clear the windshields off of cars.
We're also going to mobilize a team who will commit to shoveling the snow in a particular block area near/around the church. Someone shared on facebook recently about his experience shoveling several of his neighbors' sidewalks during a snow in December, and I think that would be a really nice thing to do.
I know it sounds simple, and many of us might say we aren't sure we can make the time, much less predict when the snow is going to hit, so we'll make it as simple as can be. If you want to help, we'll have a signup list available at church next Sunday for you to sign up to help, and we'll take it from there. If the snow falls, and you're out of town, or can't get to the location we're cleaning windshields because of other commitments, then no sweat! We realize that the snow doesn't time itself perfectly for us to get involved. But I believe 100% that God is creating opportunities for us to show His love in practical ways, to live the great commission out as Pastor Tom was saying today, and I know that if it becomes a regular part of your life, then you'll be living the great commission rather than just believing in it.
So are you with us? Email me at steved@scruffychurch.com if you'd like to sign up in advance of Sunday. There's no real significant snowfall expected in the next week, so I think it's a perfect chance to organize a team, and prepare to mobilize for the next opportunity!
Have a great week everyone!
