BROKEN - Breaking the cycle of home loss in our community.

What can one small church do?

We asked the question "what's the biggest problem people in our community have at this time?"  The answer was simple.  People are all losing their homes to this vicious economic climate.  Foreclosure is at an all-time high and we have had enough!  So what can one small church do?

We believe we CAN make a difference.  In a message in September of 2009, Pastor Tom Ouweleen said "It should not be acceptable that one more family in our community loses their home if there is anything we can do about it".  And we agree.  So we set out on a mission to make a difference, one family at a time.  We will do this with a series of fundraisers designed to help people who are in foreclosure redeem their homes before it's too late.

But we're not just gonna throw money at this problem.  It's important to us that a family is able to continue to pay their own mortgage once we help them get caught up.  So we're actively seeking nominations of families who could use our help.  When we receive their stories, we pray and ask God to help us know who we'll be able to assist.  Then we go to work.

So far, we've done a car wash and are about to have a bowl-a-thon.  Hopefully we can raise enough money at the bowl-a-thon to assist more than one family.  We're not sure what we'll do for the next fundraiser yet, but be assured we'll be doing more of these.  In the immortal words of Elwood Blues..."We're on a mission from God."

If you would like to nominate a family, email us their names, contact information, address, status of their mortgage, and their personal story.  We will always keep them anonymous in our fundraising efforts.  Email their information to: info@scruffychurch.com and we'll do the rest.
